Out of the Office? Don’t ignore your content this Summer

A Summer of Content!

Content Goals for SummerOver the summer period, it can be easy to forget about your content marketing and social media. Although you may be out of the office over the Christmas and New Year period enjoying a well-deserved break, your customers and clients might not be, and expect to stay up to date.

January is a vital time for communication, whether it’s through ongoing PR activity, producing engaging content, or keeping your social media channels active. In fact, January is a key time for communication – just because you’re out of the office doesn’t mean everyone else is, with many returning to work in early January after the New Year’s Eve holiday. Summer is also the perfect time to ramp up your content and social media as many of your customers are either planning for 2017 or increasing consumer spend due to being in holiday mode. For these reasons, it’s important not to neglect your content.

If you’re slowing down as we approach Christmas, thinking about days at the beach and time wth family and friends it can be hard to think of content ideas. Think about the themes of this time of year and link your products and services to those themes. The points listed below will help identify angles for PR activity, content creation, and social media posts.

This summer, produce content that is based on:

  • Christmas and the New Year!
  • Summer
  • Holidays
  • The beach and outdoor activities such as BBQs
  • Friends and family
  • Music and Community events
  • Australia Day
  • Back to School/ Back to Work

Christmas content might be a priority in the last two weeks before Christmas Day, but introducing relevant content that tunes into the themes of summer will resonate with your audience.

As an example, a client in the promotional and corporate gift sector published a blog on the best promotional products for outdoor use, real estate agencies are focusing autumn campaigns, while hospitality venues are communicating with customers about their summer menus and events. With many people out of the office in summer, and spending more time online, you have a golden opportunity to increase your engagement.

This time of year also provides the perfect opportunity to plan your 2017 communication endeavours.

What are you going to do to:

Gain more followers?

Convert web visitors into customers?

Increase selling opportunities?

Planning now will allow you to enact a campaign at the start of 2017 and eliminate wasting time in January and February.

If you need some help to enact a summer communication campaign, please let me know.

Wishing you a happy Christmas and a great start to 2017!

Cheers,

Sam
