By recently allowing multiple accounts, Instagram has made it easier than ever to use the platform for business purposes. Like giving your Facebook page’s editorial rights to your social media manager, or a staff member, the access to multiple Instagram accounts makes this social platform even easier to use by busy business owners.
If you’re new to Instagram or haven’t got a clue, here’s some Instagram 101 to get you started:
Instagram is all about images. If you’re setting up an Instagram account to promote your business, make sure you are presenting your service or product in the best possible light. Make sure your images are engaging to catch eyeballs as your audience scroll through their feed (which is changing soon). If you need some idea of how seriously some people take their IG accounts, head out to breakfast and watch how many people whip out their phone and snap a few photos of their smashed avocado on toast.
As well as still images, Instagram Videos are a great way to capture eyeballs. You can capture a video directly from your phone or share one created earlier. These videos can be from 3 to 15 seconds in length – enough time to tell a story about your business.
Just like Twitter hashtags, Instagram hashtags group themed content. If you’re a small business identify your industry’s key tags and use them to help others find you.
At a minimum tag your Instagram pic with:
Hashtags also help with a contest…
Instagram contests let you showcase your services or products, grow your follower count and attract sales leads. A basic Instagram contest might simply offer a free product or a discount instore. More advanced Instagram competitions ask Instagrammers to follow your page, share your content, post a pic with your nominated hashtag, and/or tag their friends. All of these aspects help increase engagement on your feed and increases your visibility.
Businesses of all sizes can now create and run Instagram ads. All you need to start is a Facebook page. Like a Facebook page promotion, you set a budget and select a target audience. Creating an ad allows to put you in front of a specific Instagram demographic.
